Y- POETRY: internationaal poëzieproject voor jongeren van 15 - 17 jaar

De PoëzieRevue van School der Poëzie heeft inmiddels een bescheiden internationale reputatie. Het werken binnenschools in combinatie met buitenschools is voor scholen in het buitenland nieuw. In seizoen 2008/2009 werd de PoëzieRevue voor het eerst in het buitenland gepresenteerd onder de titel Y-Poetry.

Met scholen uit diverse stadsdelen van Amsterdam, Antwerpen, Berlijn en Londen start School der Poëzie in het voorjaar van 2010 Y-Poetry, een internationale poëziewedstrijd en evenement. 

Y-POETRY begint voor de jongeren met het lezen van een werkbundel met gedichten van Belgische, Duitse, Engelse en Nederlandse dichters. Het thema is De Stad. Docenten van School der Poëzie trekken met deze werkbundel naar bovenstaande steden. Onder hun leiding lezen jongeren poëzie, bespreken de gedichten en worden zelf aan het schrijven gezet. Een professionele jury kiest de beste gedichten uit, 6 per land.
De 24 winnaars krijgen een uitnodiging om vier dagen naar Antwerpen te komen. Zij zijn te gast bij het jubilerende Lyceum Linkeroever. Zij worden getrakteerd op diverse literaire activiteiten en volgen een workshop voordracht.

Op vrijdagavond 12 maart vindt de Finale van Y-POETRY plaats in  Bibliotheek Permeke te Antwerpen.

Y-Poetry 2010 is een initiatief van School der Poëzie in samenwerking met Lyceum Linkeroever en Bibliotheek Permeke te Antwerpen. Andere samenwerkingspartners zijn: Goethe-Institut Amsterdam en Londen, The British Council Amsterdam en Londen, Vlaams Cultuurhuis de Brakke Grond, Villa Nella/Kunstbende Antwerpen, Dathe Oberschule in Berlijn, Apples & Snakes, Booktrust UK.

                    

 Y-POETRY BELGIUM 2010 

After the success of the first edition of Y-Poetry during the 2008/2009 season the School of Poetry planned on repeating the project in the 2010/2011 season. But colleagues from Belgium (Lyceum Linkeroever) had other ideas. They were so enthusiastic about their participation in the first edition of Y-Poetry that they asked the School of Poetry to organise a second edition for the 2009/2010 season. They took the initiative of organising an edition of Y-Poetry with different groups in Belgium, with Antwerp as the final destination. They asked the School of Poetry to take care of the content and part of the production so as to guarantee the substantive quality of the project.

After consultations with the groups in Belgium the School of Poetry decided to participate in the initiative and thereby making the second edition of Y-Poetry possible. Besides youngsters from Holland and Belgium, youngsters from Germany will also participate. And, for the first time, this edition will also include aspiring young ‘poets’ from Great Britain.

Participants from the four countries will all work with an anthology compiled by the School of Poetry comprising a broad selection of contemporary and topical poetry from Belgium, Holland, Germany and Great Britain. Each country will be represented by six poems, and all of the poems will be translated into the other three languages. Writing assignments will be developed in cooperation with poets and poetry tutors. The anthology and the writing assignments will form the basis of the course.

Tutors from the School of Poetry will travel to Antwerp, Amsterdam, Berlin and London to teach pupils in the 4th and 5th grade (± 16 year-olds). Two schools per city will be involved. The pupils will read and discuss the poetry in the anthology and will be asked to write a poem of their own. A panel of experts will judge their poems, and the best three pupils from each school (six per city) will be invited to the international finale in Antwerp.

The 24 finalists and their six supervisors will travel to Antwerp for a weekend of varied literary activities, including a literary tour and a boat trip. The finalists will attend a recitation workshop as part of their preparation for the finale. The School of Poetry will organise a seminar for the supervisors and tutors.

The Y-Poetry Finale will be the highpoint of the youngsters’ visit to Antwerp, where they will once again play the leading roles. Their poetry readings will alternate with entr’actes by professional poets and artists. Translations of the poems will be projected on a large screen. An international panel will judge the poems. And the finale will be open to the wider public.

The day after the finale the youngsters will perform again – this time in a different theatre setting – on an open-air stage at Lyceum Linkeroever in Antwerp. These experiences will undoubtedly deepen the participants’ knowledge of poetry and European literature.
